Berlinale 2026 opening film announced

The directorate of the Berlin Film Festival named the film the opening of the 76th edition.

It will be the Afghan drama No Good Men. The film was directed by Sharbanu Sadat. The plot follows Naru (Sadat), the only woman working as a cameraman on Kabul television. The heroine is convinced that there are no decent men in Afghanistan. Soon Naru begins to doubt this belief: the woman begins a relationship with reporter Kodrat (Anwar Hashimi), who accompanies her on a business trip.

The film is based on Sadat’s autobiographical novel of the same name. The Berlinale will take place from 12 to 22 February. The jury will be chaired by Wim Wenders (“Paris, Texas,” “Perfect Days”). Outside the competition, the musical “The Testament of Anna Lee”, the comedy sci-fi “Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die” by Gore Verbinski and others will be shown.
