Legendary British actor Ian McKellen, who has returned to the role of Magneto in the upcoming superhero blockbuster Avengers: Doomsday, apparently gave away one of the film’s key plot twists during a recent interview. Speaking to Jake’s Takes, McKellen spoke fondly of filming the original X-Men trilogy, particularly the spectacular Golden Gate Bridge sequence, which was created largely through hands-on special effects.
However, completing his memoirs, the actor involuntarily switched to working on a new project. “I destroyed New Jersey the other day. “Oh, maybe I shouldn’t have said that,” McKellen said, apparently realizing the gaffe. This statement was instantly interpreted as indicating that a powerful mutant would be responsible for the massive destruction of one of the US states in the plot of Avengers: Doomsday.
Previously, such details were not disclosed in official synopses. Note that McKellen’s return was one of the main surprises of the announced cast of the film. For the actor, this role will be his debut in the main Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). In the interview, he also noted the warm atmosphere on the set and the respectful attitude of his young colleagues.
Marvel Studios had not commented on the potential spoiler at the time of publication.
The premiere of the film “Avengers: Doomsday” is scheduled for December 18.
