A24 has finally begun work on the next chapter of the Texas Chain Saw Massacre franchise. The move comes after the studio won a months-long bidding war for the rights to the 1974 cult horror film, securing both television and theatrical adaptation rights, as previously reported.
The first project will be a television series directed by JT Mollner. According to reports, A24 acquired the rights in September at an auction organized by the Verve agency. A feature film is also in early development with the same producing team and ImageNation, though Mollner is not attached to that project. Casting and the final crew for the film have not yet been finalized, and it remains unclear whether the film will be released on Netflix as previously suggested.
The Verve auction for the Texas Chain Saw Massacre franchise rights drew interest from a number of studios and high-profile creative teams. Verve has represented rights to the slasher franchise since 2017. Exurbia Films serves as the primary production company.
